I let it sit out for a few days but it still didn't lay flat on the ground, so I returned it because clearly if you keep it folded up in storage its not going to lay flat when you want to use it. No big deal... I would simply through the mat away and just use the ball return (I have a good rug for putting). The ball return is adequate, kicking it back about 8 feet on my rug. My biggest complaint is that if you hit the ball just a little too hard and just a little off center, it jumps over the device and I have to retrieve it. Rather than send the product back, I cut out a couple of thin cardboard fins and hot glued them to the device such that it directs the ball into return pocket. That helped a lot. Finally, I hate products that require batteries and don't include them.
